For several years now UNICEF Turkey has maintained a strong presence working within the Syrian refugee camps in Turkey. To assist in their efforts a diverse range of materials covering education, parenting, nutrition and health were designed – all were in Arabic, Turkish and English.
UNICEF branding requires the use of Adrian Frutiger's typeface Univers. Therefore, at my own expense, all Arabic text in my work was set in Nadine Chahine's excellent Univers Next Arabic. Working with Chahine's typeface was enjoyable and motivated me to commence Ottoman calligraphy studies in Ankara in 2015.
